Design means getting districts into top physical shape. An inviting atmosphere, created through attractive window displays, parking areas, building improvements, street furniture, signs, sidewalks, street lights, landscaping, and maintenance provides a psychological lift and conveys a positive visual message about the commercial district.
Rehabilitating historic buildings, encouraging appropriate new construction, developing design management systems, and long-term planning are the foundations of the design program.
Explore Historic Plymouth Plans
Storefront Improvement Program and Graffiti Removal Program. The Explore Historic Plymouth team hopes to
develop a program to connect private architects, designers, and urban planners with building and business owners and town officials for storefront renovations, street and sidewalk enhancements, and general maintenance. A program may be developed to allow building and business owners to apply for grants to defray costs of their facade improvements.
Explore Historic Plymouth will work in cooperation with the Department of Public Works on the Pilgrim Necklace project for many design elements in the district.
